Microsoft has made a “big thing” – quite rightly – about accessibility for all of their products, to ensure they are inclusive to everyone, including more than one billion people with various disabilities around the world.

It’s busy times in the land of Excel 365 – if you want to live on the cutting edge. Microsoft has just announced the release of no less than seven new LAMBDA-associated functions (including a landmark 500th one – someone please bake Excel a cake) for the Beta variant, whilst also moving the recently released LAMBDA function a step closer to becoming Generally Available. It’s a lot to take in. Where do we start? Perhaps let’s begin with revisiting LAMBDA itself.

A new Excel Trust Center (sic) settings option to further restrict the usage of Excel 4.0 (XLM) macros has now been made Generally Available. To better protect Microsoft 365 users against malicious macro-based threats, Microsoft recently expanded the integration of what is known as the Antimalware Scan Interface (AMSI) with Office 365 to include the runtime scanning of Excel 4.0 (XLM) macros.

This month’s updates see small multiples become Generally Available, the new Model View / sensitivity labels in Desktop are propagated, plus there is a new Preview for streaming dataflows.

SumProduct is pleased to announce that two of our Directors, Liam Bastick and Tim Heng, have been re-awarded Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for Excel for 2021-22.

Even if it does appear to mean blowing smoke up our own proverbials, we have some great news! Congratulations to SumProduct’s very own Liam Bastick who won the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at last week’s Financial Modelling Summit 2021, held in London.
