March 2017 Updates for Get & Transform / Power Query

12 March 2017

It's business as usual again as Microsoft's Power Query team ramp up the updates. March sees Microsoft announce two new data transformation and connectivity features for Get and Transform (Excel 2016) / Power Query (2010 and 2013) that have apparently been requested by many customers.

These updates are available as part of an Office 365 subscription for Excel 2016 users and by downloading the latest Power Query for Excel add-in for Excel 2010 and Excel 2013.

These updates include the following new or improved data connectivity and transformation features:

  • New transformation—horizontal list expansion: with this update, it is now easier to extract data values from a column containing nested lists using the new Extract Values transformation command
  • Enhanced SQL Server connector—support for SQL Failover option: this new option may be found under the Advanced Options section in the SQL Server connector dialog.
