February 2021 Updates for Power BI

They’ve been on hiatus, but they’re now back with a vengeance! The raft of Power BI updates returns, with new items such as a new colo(u)r picker that features an RGB colo(u)r selector and a search bar to make discovery of features easier. New filtering operations have been added, and improvements have also been made in configuring email subscription attachments.

Reporting

  • DirectQuery for PBI datasets and Azure Analysis Services Updates (Preview)
  • Search bar
  • Model view updates (Preview)
  • New Field List (Preview)
  • Small Multiples (Preview): gridlines and background colours
  • Color picker
  • Smart guides for aligning objects are now available in the Mobile layout view
  • New filter operations: “is empty” and “is not empty” are introduced into the fold
  • More granular control over certificate revocation check for web connections

Analytics

  • Anomaly detection now in the Ribbon

Data connectivity

  • Snowflake: support for custom roles
  • Parquet files: connector available in Power BI Desktop
  • Hive LLAP: support for Windows authentication
  • Salesforce: API update
  • SAP HANA and BW: new documentation

Service

  • Email subscription attachment

Mobile

  • Easily find your organisation’s endorsed content using the mobile app
  • Power BI Free license users can now navigate to workspaces in the Mobile apps

Visualisations

  • New visuals
  • Shielded HTML Viewer by Nova Silva
  • Zebra BI Tables (version 4.5)
  • Zebra BI Charts (version 4.5)
  • ValQ 2.0 released with connected and collaborative planning features
  • Drill Down Combo PRO by ZoomCharts

Template apps

  • Microsoft partners: installing a preconfigured template app
  • Sales Analytics AI for Microsoft Business Central

Developers

  • Visual container fix
  • EnumObjectInst with no datarole support

Other

  • New icon update
  • Advanced notice: Microsoft 365, including Power BI, ending support for Internet Explorer 11 and legacy version of Microsoft Edge
  • Paginated reports export API is now Generally Available.
